Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance – Oman

The Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance in Oman are responsible for national, local and regional level emergency preparedness, resilience and response. They are made up of three divisions; the Royal Omani Police, Civil Defence (fire and rescue), and ambulance services.

As part of the ongoing improvement of the Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance capacity and capability The 625 delivered consultancy, advisory and education services in relation to disaster and major incident management.

A disaster is a sudden, calamitous event that seriously disrupts the functioning of a community or society and causes human, material, and economic or environmental losses that exceed the community’s or society’s ability to cope using its own resources. Though often caused by nature, disasters can have human origins

Disasters and major incidents have a variety of effects on society and the environment. The program of works related to this project was extensive and delivered a combined and co-ordinated response, interagency-agency response capability.

The 625 delivered a co-ordinated planning, training and exercising system to enable an effective, combined response.

By linking the expertise and resources of statutory organisations (emergency services, local authorities and central government, health service, armed forces, etc.) private sector organisations (transport, utilities, etc.), and voluntary agencies PACDA were able to increase disaster response capability and capacity at the local, regional and national level.
